We hope that you are all doing well and that your business efforts are succeeding.
In our last blog, we gave you a brief introduction into our business, a brief description of search engine optimization (SEO), and a look into some of the services we offer. If you have not read our last blog, we highly suggest reading it for its information and so that this blog can make more sense >Click Here<!
In this blog, we will attend to a very serious question: are you letting your competitors take away your business? We will show you how popular, influential, and powerful search engines are for typical internet users and consumers. We will then show you how many of your competitors are succeeding using SEO, and how it’s absolutely necessary for you to not only be in search engine results, but to be on page one.
So here we go…
The Power of Search Engines
Statistics show that there are over one hundred billion global searches conducted each month by internet users. According to Pew research, those searches are contributed by 92% of all internet users. Along with email, search engine use has become the most common use of the internet. Now what does this mean for you?
While internet users use search engines to find information on various subjects, topics of interest, and (sadly enough) even the spelling of words, they also use search engines to find products and businesses. According to MarketingCharts, 39% of customers come from search engine results. Additionally, 88.1% of American internet users who were above the age of fourteen browsed or searched for products in 2012. All of these statistics are compelling evidence that if a person needs a certain product or a SMB, they will use search engines to find them.
So How Are Your Competitors Winning?
We have met many small and medium size business (SMB) owners in our work efforts, and we have become friends with many of them. We know that they are hard-working, compassionate, and responsible people. We are also sure you are too. We have seen many SMB owners with great services, products, and ideas. Unfortunately, we have also seen several of them fail, one of the reasons being lack of SEO influence.
SEO is not an easy process, and it can be very tough and unfair. But here’s the thing: 95% of marketers use SEO. We did not make that number up; it comes from research done by BtoB magazine. That means that most of your competitors are probably using SEO. They have people working besides them, trying to do everything to get noticed on Google, Bing, and every other search engine.
This may seem discouraging, but it is not. The truth is that many of these people are not doing it right. Some people use dirty, illegal methods, called “Black Hat.” When they are caught, they are heavily penalized. And some people are simply not experienced or efficient in using SEO methods. This should give you hope, because if you find the right group of people, you will bypass your weak competitors.
However, it is not enough to just be in search engine results. Frankly, being on page two of search engine results is not even that noteworthy, because 75% of users never scroll past the first page. 18% of Google users click the first link they see and 10% the second link. Whether users are impatient or do not have time to go through pages of results, we do not know. But it is critical to know this information so that you can set goals for the future.
